It’s 68 degrees on my back porch this morning. I am enjoying every minute of it. It’s a perfect temperature to commune with my Lord and thank Him for all the blessings He has bestowed upon me.
Most people in my age category (which is old) are familiar with God’s Ten Commandments. We know that God gave these to Moses on Mt. Sinai.
According to scripture, The Ten Commandments were given to Moses in God’s own voice and were written on stone tablets by God’s own finger. These are particularly important to God.
We were taught about the Ten Commandments in school, and they were posted on a board in my classroom. Can you even imagine that today?
God gave us these Rules to live by and instructed us to keep these commandments.
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall make no idols.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Keep the Sabbath day holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.
I remember my mother going into some detail on 9 and 10. As a young child, those were the ones by which I was most affected. Sometimes, my side of the story regarding a fight with a friend and playmate was not exactly accurate. I was sometimes envious of things others had that I did not. Mama was quick to point out the one about coveting. These two commandments hit remarkably close to home.
As I read these commandments today, I wonder what God must think about how so many of his people no longer strive to keep these commandments. I wonder how many children are even aware that they exist. I’m certain that they are not posted in many of today’s classrooms.
I ran across another set of Commandments called Ten Commandments for Laymen. They might be of interest to some of you. These are not written by God or cast in stone but certainly could make God happy if we followed these commonsense rules for everyday life.
They are like the Ten Commandments to follow in life all of the time!
1] Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a “steering wheel” that directs the right path throughout the journey.
2] So why is a Car’s WINDSHIELD so large and the Rear View Mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.
3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few minutes to burn, but it takes years to write.
4] All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don’t worry, they can’t last long either.
5] Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don’t forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!
6] Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, “Relax, sweetheart, it’s just a bend, not the end!
7] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn’t solve your problems, HE has faith in your abilities.
8] A blind person asked St. Anthony: “Can there be anything worse than losing eyesight?” He replied: “Yes, losing your vision!”
9] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.
10] WORRYING does not take away tomorrow’s TROUBLES, it takes away today’s PEACE.
God instructed us in many passages of scripture to Remember these commandments and keep them Holy. Let us try to do that.
