As I write, I’m watching a massive protest in New York City in support of Hamas and the atrocities that are happening in Israel. There are not two sides to this heinous terrorist attack, and I’m amazed that these protests are happening around the world.
Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, we should all agree that the mass invasion and the heinous murders of innocent men, women, and children, are pure EVIL.
The pictures of the death and devastation are horrendous. The stories break your heart.
Let’s compare the attack on Israel to the attack on our soil on 9/11 when we lost 3,000 Americans. Proportionally, the number of Israeli citizens killed would compare to 35,000 dead Americans. Can we even imagine what kind of retaliation would take place?
Forty babies were found slaughtered after the Israeli attacks. Some were decapitated. Two hundred sixty young people who were attending a concert were murdered. Families were found murdered in their beds in their homes. The horror is endless. What kind of human being could perpetrate such acts?
Hamas is denying that these stories are true, but the Israeli Defense Forces took a group of international journalists to see the devastation and these atrocities. Many of these scenes are posted online. It truly is unbelievable.
“It’s not a war,” said General Itai Veruv, head of the IDF’s Depth Command. “It’s not a battlefield. You see the babies, the mothers, the fathers in their bedrooms, in their protection rooms, and how the terrorists kill them. It’s not a war…it’s a massacre.”
Many hostages have been taken and Hamas is threatening to start executing them. Some of these hostages are American citizens and some of those already killed are also Americans.
In May 1994, Israel agreed to a peace deal with the Palestinian Liberation Organization concerning the Gaza strip. They agreed to withdraw from the area and the Palestinian National Authority began to administer and police the city. The peace did not last long. Israel has been dodging missiles for years.
I had the opportunity to visit Israel a few years ago. We met with some Israeli mothers who told us of the bombs exploding all during the nights. One mother told of having to make a split decision, when she heard the sirens, which of her children she would try to protect with her body. These mothers shared stories of the trauma that young children experience. Bed wetting is a common thread that indicates the trauma they are suffering. It is hard to even imagine living under those conditions.
Israel is preparing to respond to these horrific attacks. There are those who think there should be no response. How can a rational person think that there should be no retaliation?
For days, Israel has been making announcements and dropping flyers over Gaza warning the Palestinians to evacuate before an invasion occurs. Hamas is ordering them not to leave. They are being used as human shields. There are many innocent Palestinians in Gaza who just want to go about their everyday lives but are forced into a war that they did not choose.
Hamas is a terrorist organization, and their mission is to eliminate the state of Israel and kill all the Jewish people. They are not simply referring to the Israeli Jews. The goal is to extinguish Jews everywhere.
It’s easy to figure out where the blame lies. If Hamas were to lay down their arms today, there would be no more war. If Israel were to lay down it’s arms, there would be no more Israel.
In the Senate last week, we issued a Senatorial Statement condemning these horrendous acts perpetrated against the Israeli people. It was a bi-partisan statement authored by a Republican and a Democrat. Four Democrat Senators refused to sign the statement. The House also issued a statement without the signatures of 12 Democrat House members.
There are indicators that Iran has been involved with the planning of these attacks against Israel. Another terrorist organization, Hezbollah, is threatening to flex it’s muscle against Israel.
God tells us in his Word that he will Bless those who Bless Israel. Let’s pray that this war will end quickly.
