What is going to happen during this election? A good place to start learning would be the presidential primaries that took place in Michigan a few weeks ago.
Michigan is an industrial, working-class state that made up part of the “blue wall” that elected Democrat presidents until the state went for Donald Trump in 2016. In this year’s primaries, President Biden only managed to earn 623,000 votes from the state’s Democrats. 101,436 showed up to vote for “Uncommitted.” About half of Michigan’s 2020 Democrat primary voters did not show up to vote at all.
Democrats have always been a bit two-faced when it comes to Israel. On one hand, the party’s establishment wing has usually supported Zionism. On the other hand, the party has always facilitated and paid lip service to anti-Semitic elements like members of the Squad. With tensions in the Middle East rising, the party is now caught between a rock and a hard place.
According to Wikipedia, “Uncommitted” won a majority in Dearborn, as well as in the cities of Hamtramck and Dearborn Heights. All three cities have a significant Arab American and Muslim population, which has been seen as a cause of Biden’s defeat. Biden performed well in the western part of the city but suffered a defeat in more heavily Muslim East Dearborn.”
“Uncommitted” was even endorsed by a Democrat member of Congress. Rashida Tlaib (D), the only Palestinian member of Congress, told voters: “Right now, we feel completely neglected and just unseen by our government. If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted,” she said.
Most Evangelical Christians have understood the Democrats’ two-faced approach for years. But I think that even the keenest political observers are surprised by the rise of institutional antisemitism.
I remember reading history books about discrimination against Jewish students at schools like Harvard and Yale in the 1900’s. Those stories used to feel as antediluvian as high wheel bicycles and whale oil lamps. Today half of Jewish college students feel unsafe on campus. Their university Presidents will humiliate themselves in front of Congress – and destroy their own careers – before even paying lip service to the idea of defending them.
Democrats may end up destroying their own Party over this issue. On one hand I am glad that people are finally waking up to their lies. On the other hand, I hope that they do not bring the rest of the country down with them.
I recently read in the news: “A Harvard CAPS-Harris X poll found that 51% of respondents ages 18-24 say that Hamas’ killings of Israel civilians can be justified.” The fact that young people believe that it is okay to kill civilians in any war is baffling. Innocent people die in every war. It is unavoidable maybe… but ‘justified’? It is heartbreaking that any of America’s young people hold that opinion. It makes me worry about the future of our nation.
We have all heard the worn-out line that “if fascism ever comes to America, it will be wrapped in the American flag and carrying a cross.” It has been the catchphrase of every smug humanities professor for the last few decades. Often falsely attributed to Sinclair Lewis to add an air of pseudointellectual superiority. Those of us that know history are waking up to the fact that it is here now – wrapped in D-I-E (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity) policies and claiming the banner of “tolerance.” This election we need to do everything we can to stop this country from repeating it.
